HOW DO WE AQUIRE A LANGUAGE?
Language Learning in A Social Context Lilly Wong-Fillmore’s Model of Language Learning in a Social Context will be introduced, along with instructional practices to support students learning a language, through a language, and about a language. Connections and examples will be provided for multiple languages represented in current NM Bilingual Programs.
RUTH KRITEMAN brings a wealth of knowledge to our NM Educators, with both a theoretical perspective of teaching and learning and as a current practitioner with tried and true suggestions for classroom teachers. Her experience spans 30+ years in elementary, secondary, and higher education contexts in New Mexico,
Tennessee, Washington, and Florida.
PATRICK WERITO is the Coordinator of Tribal Initiatives for Dual Language Education of New Mexico. In his role, he is supporting and working with tribal partner community schools to strengthen their Indigenous language program and reframe how tribal communities approach teaching the community language to the next generation of speakers.
